Battery Passport Case Study: How Enpower Greentech Prepares for EU Market Entry

Enpower Greentech is getting ready to enter the European market, and that step comes with a regulation nobody can sidestep. This case study shows what that preparation can look like in practice.

Starting point: Enpower Greentech's move into Europe

Enpower Greentech is a manufacturer of battery cells and battery packs, with several hundred engineers worldwide and highly automated production facilities in the US and Asia. The company is now preparing to enter the European market.

Entering the EU market also means addressing the regulatory side: anyone placing a battery on the EU market needs, from February 18, 2027, a digital battery passport for electric vehicle batteries, LMT batteries, and industrial batteries above 2 kWh, under the Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, accessible via a QR code on the battery itself. Without a valid passport, the battery simply cannot be placed on the EU market.

The complexity rarely sits in the software. It sits in the data. Technical documentation, material data, and test reports are usually unstructured, spread across different systems and formats, often in a language or structure that does not map cleanly onto the regulation's mandatory attributes.

The solution: AI-driven extraction, validated by SecIdent

Enpower Greentech built its own AI solution for exactly this problem. It automatically extracts all information required for the Digital Battery Passport directly from the company's technical documentation. Instead of manually pulling attributes from datasheets and test protocols, the AI pre-structures the data and maps values to the correct data fields.

In developing this solution, Enpower Greentech works with SecIdent's AI specialists. SecIdent then checks the extracted data for plausibility and completeness: Do units and value ranges hold up? Are all attributes mandatory for the relevant battery category actually present? Only after this check does a dataset count as ready for registration under the European requirements. Companies without their own AI development reach the same result through existing interfaces to MES and ERP systems, or directly via the attribute list.

This combination of automated extraction and independent validation addresses two risks at once: the time lost to manual data handling, and the compliance risk from incomplete or mismapped attributes. Together, they decide whether a battery pack can be placed on the market in compliance.

Features at a glance

A Battery Passport is not a single document. It is a structured dataset with clearly defined mandatory and optional fields. SecIdent maps this structure in full.

  • Attribute list per DIN DKE SPEC 99100: SecIdent includes the complete list of approximately 100 predefined attributes, comprising both required and optional information. You can enter the information directly without having to look up which details are required for the passport yourself.

  • Catalog and templates: Attributes are maintained centrally once per product and applied across all related passports through templates. Change a value, and it updates automatically everywhere it appears.

  • Interfaces: MES and ERP systems stay exactly as they are. SecIdent connects to existing data sources and outputs battery passport data automatically where needed, with no lock-in and export options to third-party systems.

  • An open data carrier: GS1 Digital Link inside the QR code works with any smartphone, no separate reader or app required. SecIdent deliberately relies on one open standard here rather than a proprietary format.

  • EC registry: The EU registry for battery passports is not yet operational. Once it goes live, SecIdent will connect to it, at no extra effort on your side.
